A huge lorry fire has caused a major UK motorway in both directions. Emergency services rushed to the scene on the M56 in Greater Manchester this evening after a vehicle burst into flames.
Smoke can be seen for miles accross the region, while motorway traffic has been halted in both directions due to the blaze. It is unknown whether there have been any injuries as a result of the incident.
Footage from motorway cameras shows a huge fireball engulfing a HGV lorry, with all three emergency services currently at the scene.
The incident is ongoing currently on the eastbound carriageway between J14 for Hapsford and J12 for Runcorn. Congestion is building, causing major delays.
Express.co.uk has contacted North West Ambulance Service, Greater Manchester Police and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service for comment.

Diversion routes in place
Here are all the diversion routes for those planning to travel in the direction of the incident.
Traffic is being diverted via the solid diamond diversion symbol
Exit the M56 at J14 and at the roundabout, take the fourth exit onto the A5117 southbound.
At the A5117/A56 junction, continue straight onto the A56 Chester Road southbound.
At the A56/A557, turn left onto the A557 Clifton Road.
At the A557/M56 J12 southern roundabout, take the first exit and follow the A557 northbound.
At the A557/M56 J12 northern roundabout, take the third exit to re-join the M56 eastbound.
What we know so far
All traffic has been stopped on the A56 after a lorry caught fire earlier this morning.
Dramatic motorway camera pictures have shown the HGV engulfed in flames, with fire crews, police and paramedics remaining at the scene tonight.
