Members of the Ukrainian army have burned an effigy of former President Donald Trump as they call him a "traitor".

In a video shared on Telegram, and subsequently X, three masked soldiers deliver a speech to the camera as they stand in front of what appears to be a cardboard cutout of Trump.

"We address Donald Trump", one soldier says. "Because of you, b******, President Zelensky couldn't get any weapons. You will never be president again. You are a traitor.

"You will pay with your blood for what you did."

The soldiers then set fire to the Trump effigy as the camera focuses on the blaze for the rest of the video.

This comes as it has been rumoured that Trump is actively using his influence to hinder the provision of American aid to Ukraine.

This interference not only undermines President Joe Biden's foreign policy but also raises concerns about the erosion of American power and credibility globally. According to Anne Applebaum in The Atlantic, despite no longer holding office, Trump is actively obstructing aid to Ukraine by rallying a minority of Republicans.

Understanding Trump's motivation is challenging, given the urgency of the situation and the potential consequences for Ukraine. Some suggest that Trump's actions reflect more than isolationism; rather, he seeks to engage with the world on different terms, potentially driven by a desire for a "deal" with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Critics speculate that hindering aid to Ukraine may be a strategic move to gain concessions from Putin or to undermine Biden's reputation. These motives align with transactional politics reminiscent of autocrats admired by Trump, posing a significant risk to the United States.

Trump has also reportedly told Hungarian Prime Minister Victor Orban "he will not give a single penny for the Russo-Ukrainian war" when the two leaders met in Florida for a "social meeting" earlier this year.

The Ukrainian government and Donald Trump have yet to comment on the situation.
