Ukraine wipes out 42 Russian tanks as intense fighting erupts across frontlines

Ukraine has released a video showing 42 Russian tanks and combat vehicles sitting destroyed in the highly contentious Donetsk region.

Defence of Ukraine posted the video to social media platofrm X, writing: "A line to hell. Dozens of Russian tanks and combat vehicles were destroyed on a small section of the front in the Donetsk region."

The video was captured by the 58th Motorised Brigade, a formation of Ukraine's ground forces, and shows the 42 vehicles lying burnt and completely inoperable in fields in Donetsk.

Anton Gerashchenko, a former adviser to Ukraine's minister of internal affairs, also shared the footage on X and praised the work of the Ukrainian soldiers in the face of a "significant intensification of fighting".

He wrote: "42 destroyed Russian tanks - a result of command work by Ukrainian 58th Motorized Brigade and in cooperation with the Separate Presidential Brigade and the 762nd Brigade.

"Brigade soldiers report that this is the result of a significant intensification of fighting in their direction over the previous few weeks.

"The pace of fighting on that section of the front has not slowed down, with Russian generals continuing to send their mechanised units into endless attacks without regard for casualties."

The defence analysis website Oryx revealed that 2,948 Russian tanks have been since the war began - 1,970 have been destroyed, 154 have been damaged, 310 have been abandoned, and 514 have been captured.

In February, Russia's Defense Ministry claimed it had destroyed over 15,000 Ukrainian tanks and armoured combat vehicles since the full-scale invasion.

On the Ukrainian side, forces have lost 797 tanks - 539 have been destroyed, 68 have been damaged, 59 have been abandoned, and 131 have been captured.

Just yesteryday, the Ukrainian military released an update claiming Russia had lost 22 tanks in the last 24 hours alone, which would bring the total to 7,354.

According to Bastian Giegerich, director-general of the London-based International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), Russia has lost more tanks in the war with Ukraine that it had operational at the start of the conflict.
