The UK has exposed a covert Russian cyber campaign targeting Western firms involved in delivering aid to Ukraine, according to the National Cyber Security Centre.

Operated by GRU Unit 26165, also known as APT28 or "Fancy Bear," the campaign has focused on penetrating networks in the defence, IT, and transport sectors across NATO countries.

Tactics include spear-phishing, credential guessing, and exploiting Microsoft Exchange to breach secure systems.

The hackers have also targeted internet-connected cameras at Ukraine’s border crossings and near military sites to gather intelligence.

The NCSC said the operation poses a “serious risk” to organisations supporting Ukraine, with backing from allies including the US, France, Germany, and Australia.

Explosions rocked the Russian industrial city of Novomoskovsk as Ukrainian drones struck deep inside the Tula region, roughly 300 km from the border.

Residents reported more than ten blasts as air defences scrambled to intercept incoming UAVs.

Russia's Defence Ministry claimed six drones were shot down, while authorities cut mobile internet access in the region amid the attack. At least two people have been injured.

The strike follows a string of Ukrainian operations targeting Russian military and industrial infrastructure, including recent hits on facilities in Saransk.

Officials have not confirmed the scale of the damage, but the incursion marks another bold strike far beyond the front lines.
