This will be the fifth official heatwave the UK has seen this season.

On Sunday, temperatures will reach 34C with the majority of the heat being felt in the south, sitting comfortable at 32C or higher.

Elsewhere, highs of above 30C are also expected.

In the East and West Midlands highs of 32C are also forecast throughout the day.

Despite it being cooler in the north of England, temperatures in Greater manchester are also set to reach 29C.

These scorching conditions will continue into the next week, as Monday is when the heat peaks.

Highs of 37C are forecast in Berkshire, nearing the recent record 38C that was recorded at Lingwood, Norfolk on June, 26.

The capital, alongside Cambridgeshire and certain parts of the south west will climb to 35C as nearby Hertfordshire is expected to hit 36C.

But, the highs won't stop there, as on Tuesday there will be further hot spells, with the warm air making its way north.

Many areas in the Midlands and the south will comfortably remain in the mid thirties as Greater Manchester and Cheshire are also expected to reach 34C and 35C.

The weather maps stay a volcanic red into Wednesday, as areas in Yorkshire also hit 30C.

Despite the colder conditions, on this day parts of Wales and Scotland are also expected to reach the mid twenties.

The heat wil l then continue on until Thursday, as highs of 35C are predicted with London staying at 34C.

Then on Friday further areas are due to see 35C according to the weather maps, with Sussex and Norfolk basking in the heat.

In Lincolnshire there are also expected to be highs of 33C, with Birmingham reaching 32C.

The Met Office says: “A heatwave is an extended period of hot weather relative to the expected conditions of the area at that time of year, which may be accompanied by high humidity.”

The UK’s threshold is met when a part of the country records a period of at least three consecutive days with daily maximum temperatures meeting or exceeding the heatwave temperature threshold - which varies by county.

Under this definition the six day spell of heat means the UK will have its fifth official heatwave of the year, as droughts continue to cause problems across the nation.

The Met Office forecast says that it will be dry for most on Monday with temperatures on the very warm to hot side.

The longer range forecast then continues adding: "For the most part, temperatures look to remain above average, especially in the south, and perhaps turning very warm or hot."
