The start of next week promises chilly conditions for most, with the exception of two unlikely parts of the country.

According weather maps from WX Charts, England and Wales is going to see temperatures close to freezing on Monday, however Scotland is predicted to be positively balmy.

Edinburgh, Glasgow and the west of Scotland could see the mercury soar as high as 15C in the mid-afternoon on April 22.

Northern Ireland too is expected to be much warmer than England and Wales, with temperatures around 12C or 13C.

England and Wales are going to shiver with things not getting much warmer than 9C and sinking as low as 3C or 4C in the Midlands, as a band of cold weather splits the country in two.

Weather maps show the stark temperature difference between the South East, the Midlands and the North West and Scotland, as the band of cold hovers over the middle of the country.

Meanwhile, this weekend sees runners take to the streets of the capital for the London Marathon. Spectators may not get to bask in much sun, but a breeze for the athletes should make for pleasant running conditions.

Speaking in the Met Office’s London Marathon forecast on YouTube, Met Office Meteorologist and Presenter Alex Deakin said: “If you’ve been training hard for the London Marathon, you’ve probably been training in the rain and under the influence of low pressure. Our weather patterns are shifting this weekend and high pressure moving in will bring many of us a fine day on Saturday.

“That high sticks around on Sunday for the big race but it starts to edge back a bit further west which means there will be a bit of a northerly breeze in the southeast and quite a bit of cloud around as well.”
