I’m Sam Cole, the host of CBC’s new podcast The Pornhub Empire: Understood, which explores how Pornhub revolutionized the porn industry and the myriad of ways we consume and engage with sex.

Pornhub’s site receives about 100 million visits per day - more than Netflix. But because of the sheepishness and stigma around porn, it’s treated as if it’s fringe, instead of what it really is: one of the biggest websites on the internet.

In the last 17 years, it’s gone from a scrappy, Montreal startup built by frat bros to the household name for porn. Our podcast pulls back the curtain on Pornhub, and throughout the series, you’ll meet former employees, porn performers, abuse material experts, legislators and the site’s new owners.
