The beautiful market town that's one of UK's best but a little remote

This pretty little market town is said to be one of the best you can visit, but it's in the middle of nowhere. Leominster, located within north Herefordshire, is a town filled with architectural delights and historic sites.

Nestled among countryside, it takes you back in time with its stilted market halls and secondhand bookshops. But for those hoping to visit, you might want to bring your car, with the nearest railway station in Ludlow, some 12 miles away.

Thanks to its fairly remote location, rolling rural hills and greenery are common sights, with endless hiking trails and scenic views surrounding the town.

It lies in the historic borderlands of England and Wales known as the "Marches" - with the town first being established around the Anglo-Saxon abbey founded in 660 AD.

Thanks to its historical importance, the town has been preserved to keep its medieval and Tudor feel, something will will undoubtedly contribute to its wider appeal. 

Featuring narrow streets and half timbered houses, a quick stroll through the town will have you feeling like you've been transported back in time. Church Street and Etnam Street are home to beautiful terraces from the Georgian period, offering a different architectural feel.

There are plenty of pretty villages nearby to explore as well, including those on The Black and White Village Trail and Mortimer Country.

The town has also been described as a treasure trove, thanks to its high number of antique and independent stores. More than 100 antique dealers descend on the markets, selling unique items to visitors.

It also makes a great base for exploring historical houses nearby, with the National Trust's Berrington Hall and Croft Castle close by.

Queenswood Country Park and Arboretum serves as a green space for residents, offering plenty of trails and dog walking routes.

The town itself has an array of restaurants and pubs to choose from, making it a great stop for a weekend break away to explore some of the scenic countryside nearby.
