Tory London mayoral candidate Susan Hall launches campaign

Susan Hall accused Sadiq Khan of having "ignored" Londoners as she launched her mayoral election campaign.

The Tory candidate has put crime, housing and reversing the expansion of London's ultra low emission zone at the heart of her campaign.

Speaking at a launch event in Uxbridge yesterday, Ms Hall said: “Sadiq Khan has ignored Londoners for eight years. If he wins a third term, that would be giving him permission to ignore us again.

“Crime has spiralled out of control after he shut police stations and failed to recruit police, rents have spiked because he has not built the affordable family homes Londoners deserve, and he has imposed his unfair Ulez expansion tax, hitting the lowest earners the hardest.

“I am listening to Londoners. My priorities are Londoners’ priorities and as Mayor, I will recruit more police, build more affordable homes, and scrap the ULEZ expansion on day one.

“On May 2, let’s send Sadiq Khan a message and vote for change.”

As well as ditching the ULEZ expansion on her first day in office, Ms Hall has pledged to encourage the removal of Low Traffic Neighbourhoods (LTNs) and remove 20mph zones on main roads controlled by Transport for London (TfL).

Other key pledges include reopening the London Plan, which sets out the plan for development in the capital, in an attempt to boost housebuilding.

She has also vowed to return to borough-based policing in a bid to get a grip on crime.

Mr Khan, who is seeking an unprecedented third term in office, launched his election campaign last week.

Speaking in central London this morning, the Labour incumbent branded the May election as a "clear two-horse race" between himself and the Conservative candidate.

Mr Khan said: "The choice on May 2 is quite clear: me, who's been delivering a fairer, safer, greener, more affordable London, or the Tories who would cancel that."
