However, writing for the Sheknows website, journalist Kristyn Burtt said: “It seems that the residential standoff between him and his older brother has a clear winner.”

The Monarch had “run the numbers” and realised Andrew’s 75-year lease would be more costly if it was terminated, Ms Burtt suggested.

She explained: "The rent and upkeep on Frogmore Cottage is reportedly over $434,000 (£360,000) and with Andrew currently lacking funds, Charles realised that he couldn’t move his brother.”
