and have been warned that they should not make the same mistakes when visiting Nigeria as and did when they toured the Caribbean back in 2022.

The Sussexes have been invited to spend some time in the West African country, where they will be taking part in "cultural activities", however a royal expert claimed they need to tread carefully when visiting a country with a link to British colonialism.

The Prince and Princess of Wales were criticised during their time visiting Belize, Jamaica and the Bahamas after poorly timed photos showed them shaking hands with Jamaican children through a wire fence.

Speaking on The Sun's Royal Exclusive Show, ITV's royal editor Chris Ship said: "If I was in Harry and Meghan's office and I was planning this tour, I would be looking at what William and Kate did in the Caribbean and not do any of it.

"I would try and do it a bit differently. It wasn't William and Kate's intention but you don't want that accusation that there was these white former colonial masters seeing people in the colonies.

"That's something they want to avoid for a whole host of reasons. If I was planning the tour I would think very carefully about the optics of it."
