Kemi Badenoch was absolutely spot-on when she told Rachel Reeves she was being attacked because she is useless, not because she is a woman. The Chancellor’s embarrassing claims she is a victim of misogyny are desperate and embarrassing. She is the only one who ever goes on about her sex. On the day of her first Budget, she proudly crowed in the Commons about being the first woman to hold the job. The Tories were baffled because by then they were onto their fourth woman leader while Labour, so-called champions of equality, had failed to even manage one.

If Reeves had delivered on her promises, she would be riding high in the polls instead of being the most unpopular Chancellor in history. But instead she seems hellbent on destroying private enterprise and turning the population into welfare dependent zombies. During the election Reeves promised repeatedly that everything was fully costed and insisted growth was a tap she could turn on to pay for any extras.

Yet here we are, less than two years later, and taxes have risen a staggering seven times higher than the amount she told voters she was planning to impose at £66 billion.

She’s gone for pensioners, workers, savers, farmers and businesses. None of them care that she is a woman. They care that she has broken her promises.

They care that she doesn’t appear to know what she is doing, repeatedly flying kites about her plans then changing her mind. They care there is no sign of hope on the horizon and no grand plan to revive the country’s stagnating economy.

Reeves is a grievance politician who believes that what she is is more important than what she does. But she is also a hypocrite. She has relentlessly harped on about the “Liz Truss mini-budget”, going for the woman instead of attacking the male Chancellor, Kwasi Kwarteng, who delivered it. Right on sister!

Badenoch accused her of being “spineless, shameless, and absolutely aimless” and called on her to resign. The Conservative leader called on Reeves to stop “wallowing in self-pity, whining about mansplaining and misogyny”.

“Let me explain to the Chancellor, woman to woman," she said. “People out there aren’t complaining because she’s female, they’re complaining because she is utterly incompetent.”

Badenoch spoke for ordinary women trying to get on in the work place when she added: “Real equality means being held to the same standard as everyone else.

“It means being judged on results.”

A powerful bit of ‘womansplaining’ that Reeves must listen to.
