Queen Camilla received a warm welcome to Shrewsbury this morning, as scores of people gathered in the town square to catch a glimpse of the consort.

The Queen, who is wearing a gorgeous camel coat, is kicking off her trip to the Shropshire town by visiting the Farmers' Market where she'll receive a tour and view its wide array of stalls, including food, artisan, jewellery and craft stalls.

The Shrewsbury brass band were heard playing in the background, much to the delight of the waiting crowds.

The market has been held in the square for almost 20 years and has grown into one of the best markets in the area, with around forty traders regularly setting up stalls on the first Friday of the month.

Many gold award-winning producers sell at the market, including an international award winner - Tootsweets confectionery from Shrewsbury.

After she's walked around the market and greeted the Lord Lieutenant, Anna Tuner, and Jenny and Stuart Jones who organise the monthly market, Camilla will move to the Old Market Hall where she'll sign the visitors' book and meet members of the local Bee Keepers' Association.

Later on, the Queen will visit the recently restored Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings, before meeting local volunteer groups including the Shrewsbury Food Hub, Shrewsbury Interfaith forum, Save our Shropshire and Shropshire Supports Refugees.

On Tuesday evening Camilla gathered authors, academics and celebrity supporters for an evening reception at Clarence House to mark new research commissioned by her Queen's Reading Room literary project.

Dame Joanna Lumley, a supporter of the initiative was asked about Camilla's prominent role and replied: "I think they're all really dutiful, in theatres if somebody's ill, somebody steps into their place, we go on with the understudy, we make the show great we keep on going.

"I think there's a lot of professional and dutiful public service, public life which goes on that we've got so out of kilter with, we find it amazing.

"We all think she should be blubbing in a corner but that's not what these people are made of."
