The Princess of Wales paid a sweet tribute to her parents during her latest outing in London this week with a key move. Princess Kate surprised guests and royal watchers worldwide when she made an unannounced appearance at the King's Garden Party at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday.

Kate was a vision in yellow as she sported a midi dress by Emilia Wickstead and a hat by Philip Treacy – the same one she wore to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding in 2018. She completed the look with a pair of beige slingback heels. But it was the princess's earrings which carried a poignant meaning.

Kate wore her Robinson Pelham earrings, which she first wore on her wedding day in April 2011.

According to the Telegraph, the then-bride's "something new" was a wedding day gift from her parents, Carole and Michael Middleton.

The stunning piece, which features diamond-set stylised oak leaves with a pear-shaped diamond set drop and a pave set diamond acorn suspended in the centre, was created by jewellers Robinson Pelham.

It was reportedly inspired by the Middleton family's coat of arms, which includes acorns and oak leaves, and were created to echo and complement Kate's Cartier tiara.

On Tuesday, Kate had a heartfelt meeting with the family of Liz Hatton, the 17-year-old photographer who died from Desmoplastic Small Round Cell Tumour, a rare sarcoma.

Liz, who lost her 10-month cancer fight in November 2024, was pictured hugging Kate at Windsor Castle last October after being invited to fulfil her dream of photographing the Prince of Wales at an investiture as part of her "bucket list."

Their hugging picture went viral, as they bonded over their mutual love of photography.

Liz was praised by the Prince and Princess of Wales as a "brave and humble young woman".
