Princess Beatrice compared to Meghan Markle with 'half-in, half-out' attitude

Prince William invited his maternal cousins, including Princes Beatrice, to join him at a recent Buckingham Palace Garden Party with some saying the cousins are “half in, half out,” but one royal expert refutes the claim.

William’s wife, Princess Kate, is on medical leave, so he was going into the royal engagement alone. Similar to his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, he called on his cousins for support.

Jane Barr, author of the From Berkshire to Buckingham newsletter, talks about the cousins’ presence and how it raised questions, with royal watchers asking: “Aren’t these cousins half-in/half-out royals, just as Harry and Meghan wanted to be, but were denied?”

Ms Barr explains the difference between Princess Beatrice and the Sussexes, saying there are two major points, including position and intent.

While Harry may have been disgruntled about being considered the “spare,” he was still the son of the future king.

And, Harry and Meghan seem to be seeking “glitz” and glamour, when Beatrice “holds down a regular job” and lives a relatively “low-key lifestyle.

"She (Meghan) would not have been happy with the ultimartely quiet or truly independent/non-royal lives that Wiliam and Harry's cousins actually live."

Harry and his cousins are all grandchildren of the late Queen, but Harry does stand out from the crowd for a reason.

Ms Barr explains: “Looking back to Megxit, Harry was not just the grandson of the Queen, the same relationship all his cousins had to the sovereign, he was the son of the future king.”

She adds: “William and Harry were — from birth — preeminent royals, while their cousins, although celebrated, surely, began as secondary royals and only continued to fade as the years went by.”

“Harry seems so bitter about being the spare, but he has always been quite senior to his cousins, and treated accordingly.”

Beatrice and the other cousins, Princess Eugenie, Zara and Mike Tindall, appeared at the event to be helpful, it’s being said. But when it comes to Harry and Meghan, their being half in, half out, comes across as seeking personal gain, as they pursue commerical success, says the royal writer.

Ms Barr says: “The second difference is what Harry and Meghan sought, which did not resemble any of their family members’ situations.”

She adds: “Beatrice and Eugenie, HRHs both, hold down regular jobs, not glitzy high-dollar partnerships with behemoth entertainment corporations.”

"Meghan wanted to take her HRH and her title and be a superstar in her own sphere on the international stage, wholly separate from the control of the Crown."
