Prince William will return to royal engagements after the Easter holidays when Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis go back to school.

The Prince of Wales is currently spending time with Kate, Princess of Wales as she undergoes preventative chemotherapy.

In a statement on Friday at 6pm GMT, Princess Kate revealed how she underwent "major abdominal surgery" and it was initially though the condition was "non-cancerous".

But tests after the operation found cancer had been present.

The Princess said: "It has been an incredibly tough couple of months for our entire family, but I’ve had a fantastic medical team who have taken great care of me, for which I am so grateful.

"In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London and at the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous. The surgery was successful.

"However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment.

"This of course came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family."

The announcement comes just days after the London Clinic has launched an urgent probe after reports Princess Kate's patient confidentiality was breached when she underwent planned abdominal surgery there in January.

Hospital bosses are reportedly distraught after an alleged attempt by colleagues to look at the Princess of Wales's private medical information.

The Mirror reports that at least one member of staff was said to have been caught trying to access the mother of three's notes while she was a patient there for nearly two weeks earlier this year.

The hospital in Marylebone, central London has a reputation for discreetly treating royals, including King Charles, as well as celebrities and high-ranking politicians.

According to the report, the hospital has already informed Kensington Palace about the security breach and the Princess of Wales is believed to have been made aware of the alleged incident.
