Prince Harry's true feelings about quitting Sentebale charity revealed by expert

Prince Harry will be "crushed" over making to decision to step down as patron - and co-founder - for Sentebale charity. Co-founded alongside Prince Seeiso of Lesotho in 2006, Sentebale was set up to help young people and children in southern Africa, particularly those living with HIV and Aids.

In a joint statement released by the pair, Harry spoke of his "heavy heart", adding that he was "truly heartbroken" over his decision to step away from the charity.

Speaking to the Mirror, royal biographer Ingrid Seward revealed just how Harry will be feeling at this moment in time - especially after setting it up "in memory" of a very important person in his life.

Ms Seward told the publication: "When he set Sentable up he frequently spoke of how proud [Princess] Diana would have been of him. How her memory was very much part of his thinking to help the little children born with Aids.

"It is particularly crushing for him as it was done in her memory. He will be a sad and angry man today. But this will not be the last we hear of his African philanthropy. Diana’s memory is too precious for Harry to ever give up."

She added: "The romantic name means Forget Me Not in the local language. It has been close to Harry's heart for 20 years."

The 40-year-old spent two months in the kingdom of Lesotho during his gap year when he was 19 in 2004 - which inspired him to later establish the charity. He has had the opportunity to meet Aids orphans - as well as vsiiting herd boys living a harsh existence looking after cattle in remote mountain areas. He most recently visited in October 2024. During the visit, he spoke to a group of young people around a campfire about the "massive difference" the charity was making.

Since news of his decision to step down as patron, Sentebale have also taken to social media. In their blunt statement, they wrote: "It’s incredible teams on the ground – our staff and local partners – who bring our mission to life every day, walking alongside the children and young people we serve. While trustees are key for governance and regulation, and patrons – especially founders – are an honour to have, it’s the people in the field who are advancing the work, no matter what.

"Our commitment to supporting youth in southern Africa with better health, stronger livelihoods, and climate resilience remains as strong as ever. The work continues because they deserve nothing less."
