Queen Mary of Denmark has shared a heartbreaking new message after a mass shooting in Australia. The Queen, alongside her husband King Frederik, have sent their condolences to the Australian people and the Jewish community after the shooting on Bondi Beach in Sydney on Sunday.

The attack, which has killed at least 16 people, happened on the popular beach during a Hanukkah event. The two shooters were believed to be father and son.

In a public message, Queen Mary - who was born in Australia - and King Frederik wrote: “We and the people of Denmark are profoundly saddened by the tragic news of the terror attack at Bondi Beach today.”

The message continued: "We extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to all those affected, their loved ones, the people of Australia and the Jewish community."

As reported by People, the message was sent on official letterhead from Amalienborg, the Danish royal family's home in Copenhagen.

Australia holds a special place in the couple’s heart, with Mary, 53, having been born in Tasmania. It is also where they met in 2000 during the Sydney Olympics.

Mary often travels back to her home country when she has time away from her royal duties.

It is believed she often takes her children with her, with Crown Prince Christian, 20, Princess Isabella, 18, and twins Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine, 14, having all spent time in their mother’s home country.

Queen Mary has made a public appearance since the horrific event in Australia on Sunday.

On Monday, Mary stepped out solo at the Copenhagen Opera House in Copenhagen, Denmark, for The Change Award & Into Innovation Award.
