Pizza fans have discovered the true purpose of the little tool that can be found in the middle of their meal.

Those who have ordered takeaway pizzas will be familiar with a small white plastic tool that's pushed into the middle of the pizza holding it together.

But now thanks to a new Instagram post, food lovers are realising its real purpose is in fact to help you split the pizza into slices.

The video, posted by Rowheim Farooqui, shows the plastic tool being pushed into each slice and pulled away to avoid tearing each part.

In the post, Mr Farooqui said he had been shown the trick by a member of Domino's staff.

Many of his followers were quick to say they had never even thought the tool had a use.

One person replied: "Nice, I've never thought of that, very clever."

While another added: "When I was younger I thought it was a stool for a tiny person."

Another suggested use of the tiny piece of plastic is to prevent the box's lid from collapsing on the pizza.
