Brainteasers and other brain puzzles are great ways to stimulate the mind and give the brain some much-needed exercise.

Brainteasers can help invigorate and improve the health of the brain in the same way that running, cycling or swimming can help improve the health of the muscles in the arms and legs.

They can come in several different forms too. They can be observational, analytical, or mathematical. Mathematical brainteasers come in the form of maths questions that the user has to solve as quickly as possible.

Analytical brainteasers meanwhile are often riddles with hidden meanings that require more lateral thought.

The third type are known as observational brainteasers which give people an image with an anomaly inside it such as the one above created by the Daily Express. Your task is to dry and find the odd car out.

Did you spot the odd car out? No worries if not, the answer is circled above. It’s three rows up from the bottom and three columns in from the right.

The car in question stands out from the rest because its windows are a slightly different shade of blue.

The key to spotting the car and solving the brainteaser is to carefully scan the image from left to right and top to bottom to ascertain which car is the anomaly in the image.

Observational brainteasers like this one are useful for exercising the brain in a way that makes it think hard to get around an issue.

The reason brainteasers are important is because they can contribute to neurological health. The healthier the brain is, the less likely it may be to develop a neurological condition such as dementia.

This doesn’t mean brainteasers will stop someone from developing the condition, other factors can have a much bigger impact, but they could help keep it sharper for longer.

Dementia cases in the UK and around the world are rising with recent research suggesting that 1.7million people in the UK could be living with the condition by 2040.

In response to the results, the lead author of the UCL study that made the shocking discovery, Dr Yuntao Chen said: “It is shocking to think that the number of people living with dementia by 2040 may be up to 70% higher than if dementia incidence had continued to decline.

“Not only will this have a devastating effect on the lives of those involved but it will also put a considerably larger burden on health and social care than current forecasts predict.”
