Met Office issues 27 hour snow and ice warnings to 148 regions - full list

The Met Office has issued a number of yellow warnings of ice and snow as Storm Goretti continues to cause chaos across the UK. A total of 148 areas in the country will be impacted by the unsettled weather on Saturday, as locals are urged to stay safe. 

Storm Goretti has proved to be a powerful and disruptive weather system, bringing widespread impacts across affected areas. The storm produced exceptionally strong winds, including a peak gust of 99mph recorded at St Mary's on the Isles of Scilly — the strongest wind speed measured there since 1991. According to the Met Office, the wintry conditions are likely to continue over the weekend as well. It warned that the chaotic weather may bring travel disruptions, and icy patches may increase the risk of accidents.

The Met Office has urged the locals to stay safe during the icy conditions. The National Weather Agency said: "Keep yourself and your family safe when it is icy. Plan to leave the house at least five minutes earlier than normal. Not needing to rush, reduces your risk of accidents, slips, and falls.

"If you need to make a journey on foot, try to use pavements along main roads which are likely to be less slippery. Similarly, if cycling, try and stick to main roads which are more likely to have been treated.

"Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, amending your travel plans if necessary.

"Be prepared for weather warnings to change: when a weather warning is issued, the Met Office recommends staying up to date with the weather forecast in your area."
