The M60 motorway is closed this afternoon due to a 'serious incident'. The air ambulance has landed at the scene of the incident between J23 and J24, and police are also in attendance.

The clockwise carriageway of the motorway is completely closed, and motorists have been left queuing.

North West Motorway Police have urged drivers to find alternative routes around the area, and have told drivers to stay in their cars, as some have been seen getting out and buying ice creams from an ice cream van.

Posting to X, they wrote: "We have a serious incident on M60 between J23 and J24 both carriageways will be closed to allow helimed to land and investigations to continue - please find another route."

Greater Manchester Police have been approached for more information.
