A major UK bridge has been forced to partially close due to a "police led incident" - as emergengy services have rushed to the scene sparking travel chaos during rush hour.

An update from National Highways confirmed: "The A282 QEII Bridge (Dartford Crossing) in Essex is closed southbound due to an ongoing Police led incident."

Two hour delays, National Highways says

National Highways has said there is a two hour delay on the M25 clockwise approaching the crossing, and also an hour anti-clockwise.

This is because only one tunnel is now available for traffic heading in that direction, according to National Highways.

Diversions southbound via Dartford Tunnel

All southbound/clockwise traffic is being diverted through the eastbore of the Dartford Tunnel, National Highways has said.

There is a height limit of 15ft 9in for traffic using the Dartford Tunnel northbound, which is continuing to use the westbore of the Dartford Tunnel.

National Highways says northbound traffic under this height is unaffected.

QEII Bridge is closed, National Highways confirms

National Highways has confirmed that the A282 QEII Bridge (Dartford Crossing) in Essex is closed southbound due to an ongoing police led incident.

Essex Police are at the scene and managing the incident, according to the motorways manager. 

National Highways traffic officers are helping with traffic management.
