A major UK motorway has been forced to partially close after a huge crash this afternoon.

Emergency services have rushed to the scene on the M25 in Essex, east of London, shortly after midday on Friday.

An update on the National Highways says: "The M25 in Essex is closed anti-clockwise between J27 (M11) and J26 (Waltham Abbey) due to a serious collision involving a car and a lorry.

"Essex Police are among the emergency services in attendance. National Highways Traffic Officers are also on scene assisting with traffic management."

It is not yet known whether there have been any casualties as a result of the crash. Express.co.uk has contacted the emergency services for further information.
