A grassfire has reportedly erupted near Heathrow Airport, allegedly prompting the closure of one of the air hub's runways. A picture on social media shared by a traveller shows thick smoke rising near the airport, as online reports suggest runway 27L has been shut.

X user James Wade wrote on the platform: "I'm not known for breaking news... but there's a fire near the runway at Heathrow which is delaying all flights... here's my view from the terminal..." Heathrow Airport's website didn't immediately show signs of delayed departures. The Express has contacted the airport for comment.
