A fire ripping through a building in Leicester

Residents living in Leicester have been asked to keep their windows closed after a fire ripped through a local building in the early hours of this morning.

The fire broke out at 3.43am on Jarvis Street. Following the incident, locals are being advised to avoid Bath Lane and areas surrounding the fire. 

The emergency services have been called to the scene to tackle the blaze. In a statement, Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said they were tackling the fire, but did not believe that anyone was inside the building at the time. 

In a statement, they said: "We are currently dealing with a large industrial fire in the area of All Saints Road and Great Central Street in the Leicester City Centre.

"Please ensure you keep your doors and windows closed if you live in the area."

Police urging public to avoid surrounding areas

Leicestershire Police have urged the public to avoid surrounding areas following the fire in the early hours of this morning. 

In a statement on X/Twitter, they said: "Please avoid Bath Lane and surrounding areas including - All Saints Rd, Jarvis St, Great Central St and Welles St.

"As we are aware and dealing with this incident, no further calls are required unless necessary. Thank you."
