If David and Victoria Beckham want to win back Brooklyn, they must do one thing

I’ve written acres about the Posh and Becks V the Peltz-Beckhams war this week but to recap – I think there’s much truth in what Brooklyn, who till now I thought was a spoiled nepo brat, says about Brand Beckham being everything. It rings true when he says his family value public promotion and endorsements above all else and that till now “my parents have controlled narratives in the press about our family”.

The question keeps being asked is this – should Posh and Becks hit back? Hell, they’ve been hitting back since Brooklyn first became estranged from them. And that’s been the problem. They’ve used their pet journalists in the media to tell us how devastated they are, and they’ve put out pleading messages to their son whilst subtly demonising the wife he adores – suggesting she’s the root of all the problems. They even call Brooklyn ‘The Hostage’ – another dig at Nicola (and they have an unprintable nickname for her too).

And they post family shots which make clear there’s one important person missing. So, let’s not pretend they’ve not been doing exactly what their son has accused them of – manipulating the media. And they’re STILL doing it. Everything Brooklyn said this week has been refuted in detail – and do we think that happened without their help?

Like so much else the Beckhams do on social media, the row with their son has been a campaign – and this time its backfired and Brooklyn has just said “Enough” which is why he let rip. So, yes while there are two sides to every story, let’s not pretend it’s just an ungrateful Brooklyn and his wife at fault here.

And if Posh and Becks want their son back, they need to do what he asks – and give him space to get on with his life. He’s not part of Brand Beckham anymore and they need to accept that. And if his new life and his marriage do blow up in his face THAT’S when they need to be there – to comfort NOT to control.

Pru Leith has announced she’s leaving Bake Off after nine years. “I’m 86 for goodness sake,” she said. Well, I’ll miss her but clearly not the gushing Bake Off “source” who sounded beyond gleeful that Nigella Lawson would be stepping into Prue’ colourful shoes: “Prue has been wonderful, but Nigella’s recognised worldwide and she’ll be a sure-fire hit.” Sounds like they can’t wait to see the back of her – a case of out with the (very) old and in with the bright, sexy new.

One in four children start primary school without being able to use the loo or feed themselves. And according to a new teachers’ survey, 50% of parents don’t think it’s their job to teach them. Who are these idiot parents and why did they ever think they were fit to have children? Of course it’s their job. It sure as hell isn’t the teachers’, who are having to spend an hour and a half hour every day changing nappies when they should be educating kiddies.

Why bring children into the world if you’re too damn lazy to prepare them for life?

Liz Hurley said in the High Court this week she was persuaded to sue a tabloid newspaper over phone hacking claims because Hugh Grant used “puppy dog” eyes to convince her. Not sure the judge will think the pleading eyes of a rom-com actor are a good or a serious enough reason to bring damages claim.

After the CPS said Lucy Letby, currently serving 15 life sentences for murder and attempted murder, wouldn’t face any new charges over the deaths of nine more babies, her barrister Mark McDonald said: "Ninety nine per cent of the people I defend are guilty, but I’ve looked into Lucy Letby’s eyes, and I know she didn’t do it.”

Two things. First, presumably he must have told various courts that these “guilty” people he was defending were innocent so why should we believe him when he says Letby is. Second, you’d think a seasoned barrister might use evidence to determine someone’s innocence or guilt – not a deep searching look into their eyes?
