House Speaker Expels Poilievre Amid Heated Debate, Tory MPs Leave Commons

2 weeks ago 32

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre was expelled from the House of Commons by House Speaker Greg Fergus after initially refusing to withdraw remarks that labelled Prime Minister Justin Trudeau a “wacko Prime Minister.”

All Tory MPs left the House after their leader’s expulsion.

The comments from Mr. Poilievre came after a heated debate between him and Mr. Trudeau, as the latter accused Mr. Poilievre of refusing to denounce, and associating with, the fringe group “Diagolon” which the Prime Minister called a “white supremacist group.”

Mr. Poilievre pressed  Mr. Trudeau on drug decriminalization, questioning why the federal government has not responded to requests from the provincial government of British Columbia to amend decriminalization and place restrictions on possession in certain locations.

Prior to expelling Mr. Poilievre from the House, Speaker Fergus had also expelled Tory MP Rachel Thomas for challenging and disregarding the authority of the chair.
