A 22-year-old British tourist who went missing on Saturday has been found dead in waters off the coast of Australia. Queensland Police launched a search for Lewis Jack on Saturday after he vanished from Surfers Paradise, on the Gold Coast. But tragedy has struck after Mr Jack's was found on Tuesday night at around 7.40pm near the Isle of Capri.

His death is not being treated as suspicious, Queensland Police said. Mr Jack, who was born in Glasgow, is understood to have fallen into the water and drowned. The young man's grandmother, Margaret Mooney, has led tributes on social media today (Wednesday), writing she has a "broken heart" over the death of her "beautiful grandson".

Posting on social media a heartbroken Ms Mooney wrote: "It is with a broken heart that I have to say my beautiful grandson has sadly been found. Thank you for all the lovely words and the shares. R.I.P Lewis Jack, forever 22. Love you loads."

Mr Jack's family have set up a GoFundMe to help bring him home to Scotland. Toni-Lee Donnelly, who organised the page on behalf of the family, said Mr Jack was "deeply loved".

She wrote: "Tragically, on Tuesday, 20th May 2025, we received the devastating confirmation that Lewis is no longer with us,' it read.

"Lewis was one of the kindest souls – his smile could light up any room, and his warmth and humour touched everyone he met. He is deeply loved and will be missed beyond words by all who knew him.

"This GoFundMe has been set up to help bring Lewis home to Scotland and support his family with the funeral costs"
