Weekend weather: Some sunshine and showers predicted for UK

Warmer weather is on its way bringing some relief to Britons over the May Bank Holiday weekend. While parts of the UK look set for up to 19C, other areas can expect a washout, though, as unsettled weather is also in the forecast for the long weekend.

The Met Office says parts of southern England and the Midlands will see the best of the warmer weather, with highs of 19C possible.

But while southern parts of England and Wales look set to be dry and bright, parts of northern England and Scotland could see heavy rain.

Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Mark Sidaway said: "While things remain unsettled with further showers or longer spells of rain for some, all areas should see some drier conditions and sunshine at some point and, in that sunshine, it should feel quite warm.

"It really will depend on where you are geographically as to what weather you might experience."

Greg Dewhurst, a Met Office meteorologist said there will be plenty of sunshine around, but it will be cloudier the further north you are.

Northern areas will experience heavy showers on Sunday morning, but the clouds may break during the day, according to Mr Dewhurst.

Monday's forecast looks to be changeable, with the possibility of longer spells of rain developing in southern England.

Mr Sidaway cautioned: "There continues to be uncertainty around the track of a low-pressure system which is expected to cross the southern UK this weekend, meaning there is some uncertainty about some of the forecast details.

"While it will remain unsettled with further showers or longer spells of rain, all areas should see some drier conditions at some point and, in any sunshine, it should feel quite warm. But for the exact details for your area stay up to date with forecast over the coming days."

Weather maps generated on Saturday (May 3) by WX Charts using MetDesk data show maxiumum temperatures in the mid teens across the country by 6pm this evening.

It's a similar picture at 3pm on Sunday, with 14-15C in the south, 13-16C in the north of England, 12-15C in Wales and 13-15C in Scotland. Northern Ireland will see maximum temperatures of 10-11C, according to WX Charts.
