Elderly man, 87, charged with murder of wife ‘in need of urgent medical treatment'

An 87-year-old man has been charged with the murder of his 85-year-old wife, Delia Haxworth, who died on June 18.

William Arthur Haxworth, a resident of Upper Lansdown Mews in Bath, appeared before magistrates on Thursday.

He has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear at Bristol Crown Court on Friday.

Emergency services were called to the couple's home in the upscale suburb—where the average house price is £1.9 million—finding Mrs Haxworth in need of urgent medical attention.

Despite the efforts of paramedics, she was pronounced dead at the scene on Tuesday morning, according to a spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police.

Mrs. Haxworth's body has been formally identified, and her family has been informed.

They are currently receiving support from family liaison officers.

Detective Inspector Mark Newbury of Avon and Somerset Police expressed sympathy for Delia's family, saying: "Our thoughts are very much with Delia's family as they begin to come to terms with this tragedy.

"Although a man has been charged, we are still in the early stages of our investigation."

Police are urging anyone with information to come forward, particularly those who may have seen or have footage of an older man with a rucksack walking from Upper Lansdown Mews to Bennett Street, or a man climbing scaffolding in Bennett Street.
