Brits face airport queues, hundreds of engineering projects on the railway networks and road closures over the Easter weekend. More than 19 million people are expected to drive on Good Friday alone, the AA said, and many others will travel for their Easter break via trains and plane.

But the Bank Holiday weekend is likely to cause travel misery for many. Network Rail prepares to carry out more than 300 engineering projects. Among the reduced and cancelled services to be expected is the link between Milton Keynes and London Euston, which will see no trains running on Saturday and Sunday and a reduced timetable during the bank holidays. And with millions of drivers planning on travelling on major routes, motorists have been advised to prepare for congestion. The heavy rain forecast by the Met Office may also cause disruption. In the run-up to the Good Friday bank holiday, many Brits have already started their break, with pictures emerging from Manchester Airport showing queues forming.

Where else will be affected by Network Rail engineering works?

Services on the West Coast Main Line between Saturday and Monday will start and terminate at Carlisle, with replacement buses serving stations to the north.

Platforms one to eight will be closed at London Victoria, meaning no Southeastern trains will serve the station over the four-day bank holiday period.

Services will be diverted to London Bridge or London Cannon Street.

Engineering work in the Southampton and Brockenhurst areas will close various lines in the region.

Network Rail carrying out over 300 engineering projects this weekend

Train passengers are being warned of disruption as Network Rail prepares to start Easter engineering work.

The Government-owned company has said it will carry out work on more than 300 projects across Britain between Good Friday and Monday, causing a number of lines to close.

The most significant impact will be at London Euston, which will have no services to or from Milton Keynes on Saturday and Easter Sunday, and a reduced timetable on Good Friday and Monday.

That's because of work including renewals of overhead electric lines and drainage improvements.
