'Cheerio!' EasyJet passengers celebrate as rowdy couple carted off plane

Glasgow easyJet passengers were recorded chanting "cheerio, cheerio" as a disruptive couple were escorted off their Egypt-bound flight after instigating a mid-air ruckus. The Humberside EZY3165 service was rerouted to Heraklion, Greece due to the unruly pair who allegedly verbally assaulted fellow travellers before turning on the cabin crew.

This forced an emergency landing in Greece, where the ill-mannered couple were removed by local authorities. Video footage shared with the Record captured the moment onlookers jeered "cheerio, cheerio" and "na na na na, goodbye" as the offending pair were taken off the aircraft.

One passenger, Michael McLennan remarked: "It was awful."

He reported that the quarrelsome pair argued with other passengers for 30 minutes before the cabin crew intervened. Despite being instructed numerous times over the tannoy to remain seated during landing, the woman continued to defy orders.

Satellite imagery, available on Flight Aware, outlined the abnormal trajectory of the flight as it detoured past Greece then looped back to Heraklion amidst the escalating situation aboard, reports the Daily Record.

It has been reported that two passengers were detained by Greek authorities after an incident on a flight. The plane, which was en route to Hurghada, continued its journey after the disruptive duo were escorted off, arriving approximately two hours behind schedule, close to midnight.

An airline spokesperson commented: "easyJet can confirm that flight EZY3165 from Glasgow to Hurghada on April 29 diverted to Heraklion where the aircraft was met by police due to two passengers behaving disruptively onboard. The flight then continued to Hurghada once the passengers were removed."

They added: "easyJet's cabin crew are trained to assess and evaluate all situations and to act quickly and appropriately to ensure that the safety of the flight and other passengers is not compromised at any time."

The spokesperson further stated: "Whilst such incidents are rare we take them very seriously and do not tolerate disruptive behaviour onboard. The safety and wellbeing of passengers and crew is always easyJet's highest priority."

Inquiries for further details have been directed towards the Hellenic Police.
