With yellow weather warnings set in place for areas across the UK, Brits are urged to stock up on certain items to brace themselves for the cold weather conditions that are expected to hit the country in the upcoming days.

Yellow weather warnings of snow and ice have been issued from today until tomorrow for Scotland, the North West, West Midlands, South West and Wales.

Manchester, Birmingham and Cardiff are just some of the areas impacted. A yellow weather warning has also been issued for the South of England, with areas including Portsmouth and Brighton to be hit with snow from 9 am on Wednesday, January 8.

There are risks some might be cut off by snow and can't access services. This could mean that some might be without food or heat for several hours or days.

The Met Office has advised in order to stay safe there are certain items which are "essentials".

The five things you need if you're cut off by snow

  • Candles
  • Matches (or lighters)
  • Torches
  • Batteries
  • A mobile phone power bank

It is important that Brits are constantly checking for updates when weather warnings are issued as they can "change quickly".
