Bradford house fire tragedy as 10-year-old girl dies in blaze

A 10-year-old girl has died after a house fire in Bradford, with a woman and three other children taken to hospital for treatment.

Emergency services were called to the property, in Kingsdale Drive, just after 1am yesterday morning.

A 37-year-old woman and three children, aged 11, six, and three, had managed to escape and were taken to hospital with injuries which were described as being non-life threatening, West Yorkshire Police said.

Tragically, a fourth child, a 10-year-old girl, was discovered inside the house and pronounced dead at the scene, the force added.

Police investigating the house fire have said the blaze is not being treated as suspicious.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service sent three crews, two from Bradford and one from Shipley, which used two hose reels and four breathing apparatus at the scene.

A neighbour who did not wish to be named described hearing hearing sirens at around 1.10am.

They added: "I saw smoke and the fire brigade coming up the street.

"I didn't know the family but I've gone to lay flowers for condolences."

A message accompanying flowers left at the scene said: "Thinking of and praying for you all at this time of terrible loss and grief."

Detective Chief Inspector Zaheer Abbas of Bradford District Police said: "This is an absolutely tragic incident in which a young child has lost her life, our thoughts are with her family at this time.

"Our investigation with the fire service has deemed that the fire was not suspicious.

"The family are being supported by specially trained officers, a file will now be prepared for the coroner in due course."
