Police have cordoned off a road in Merseyside as a result of an ongoing incident.

Police can be seen on Alexandra Road, Birkenhead, the Liverpool Echo reported.

Officers are understood to have told residents to stay in their homes, with negotiators apparently on the scene.

A Merseyside Police spokesman said: "Just after 2.10am we received a report that a man had entered a bar on Conway Street and threatened staff and people inside with a crowbar.

"The man damaged his own vehicle with the crowbar before leaving the premises."

The spokesman added: "When officers attended the address, the male made threats.

"The man remains inside the property and armed officers have closed off the area.

"Members of the public are advised to stay indoors whilst the incident is ongoing.

"At this stage no-one has been injured."
