The next three months will see a large number of bank branches close across the country. High street banks have been shutting as customers go online.

A slew of bank branches will close over the next three months as high street names note an increased number of customers who exclusively bank virtually. Concerns have been raised for certain Brits who feel the need for in-person banking services, as 2025 also saw a huge number of branches closing across the UK. NatWest, Santander, Halifax and Lloyds are all closing branches between now and the end of May, with 89 to close in total.

Banks have reassured customers that there are services still available to them through apps and official websites. Meanwhile, some in-person banking services will be available through Post Offices. Link is a group that was set up to advocate for and inform those who require access to cash.

The group has collaborated with the major UK banks to provide a detailed list of branches closing and when they are expected to shut. Between now and the end of May, Santander is the bank closing the most branches, with Natwest, Lloyds and Halifax also closing a considerable amount.

    "Despite more people choosing other ways to pay, cash is critical to millions of people," LINK said in a recent press release. Its most recent report revealed that 14% of UK businesses have gone cashless over the past 12 months.

    However, it also found that 46% of in-person transactions are still cash-based, with higher than average use in convenience stores, independent retailers, pubs and cafes.
