Weather warnings for thunder, lightning and sudden floods are in place as Britain is hit by storms. The Met Office is warning of severe weather across southern England and Wales, with thunderstorms overnight sparking travel chaos this morning.

The yellow warnings covering parts of Cornwall, Bath, Portsmouth, Swansea and Cardiff have been in place since 8pm last night and will remain in place until 8am this morning. Meanwhile the second warning, covering London, Oxford, Gloucester and Chelmsford, will last until 10am.

London, parts of the south-east, and areas in the south-west have all been hit with rail delays, after the inclement weather struck during the small hours of last night. The M25 near Heathrow, the M11, the M1 coming into London and the M26 heading westward from Kent into London has heavy traffic, not moving in places.

Meanwhile there is a part closure on London's District Line and Overground service. There are also minor delays on the Northern Line.
