Sadiq Khan votes in London Mayoral election

A rattled Sadiq Khan warned his supporters this evening that his Tory rival Susan Hall could sneak through and pull off a shock win due to one specific factor.

Shortly before 7pm, Mr Khan tweeted that turnout was looking low for the key London mayoral race, and warned this means the Tories chance of winning had “skyrocketed”.

He begged supporters to get out and vote by 10pm or risk waking up “to a Tory nightmare”.

In a separate social media graphic he added that today’s major electoral showdown will be “extremely close”.

Mr Khan won by less than five percent four years ago to Conservative candidate Shaun Bailey.

However recent polling of this year’s race suggests Mr Khan will win by more this year.

A poll by Savanta published yesterday suggested that while his lead has fallen during the election campaign, he is 10 points ahead of Susan Hall.

Savanta suggested Mr Khan will win 42% of the vote to Ms Hall’s 32%, despite widespread anger about his handling of the top job.

Yesterday, Labour’s Wes Streeting was slammed for a hyperbolic tweet claiming that a win for Susan Hall will be a “win for racists, white supremacists and Islamophobes the world over”.

He accused Ms Hall’s campaign of being “fought from the gutter with dangerous and divisive politics”.

Lord Frost accused the Shadow Health Secretary of being “rattled”, and called on voters to back Susan Hall to “help put this kind of politics in the dustbin where it belongs”.

Net Zero Secretary Claire Coutinho slammed Mr Streeting, warning Labour will “shame you until you do as you’re told”.

"They called you a ‘bigot’ if you questioned whether women had a penis.

“Then, a ‘flat-earther’ if you want to stop ULEZ.

“Now you’re a ‘racist’ if you vote for Susan Hall.”
