Prince Harry and King Charles are "further past the conflict than we think they are" and should use the Duke of Sussex's upcoming visit to the UK to spend some time together, according to a royal commentator.

The Duke will be in London tomorrow night to attend an event to mark the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games, which he founded in 2014.

Harry's relationship with his father has been strained in recent years but he rushed back to the UK in February to meet him after Buckingham Palace announced Charles had been diagnosed with cancer.

Commentator Afua Hagan insisted the pair should meet when the Duke is in London as she argued "it will be good for them."

Their father-son bond has taken several hits since Harry and his wife Meghan Markle stepped down from their royal roles. They criticised the Royal Family in a bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey, before the Duke of Sussex made further claimes in his memoir Spare.

Speaking to Newsweek, Hagan said: "I think it would be nice for them to spend some time together post the King's cancer diagnosis.

"I always say health is a great leveller, it's really good at bringing people together. If both parties can make time, it would be great for them to have that time together

"When Harry was here just after the King's diagnosis, it was quite a quick meeting so hopefully this time around, the King will have more time and they can spend some time together. It will be good for them."

The expert added: "I think they're probably further past the conflict than we think they are.

"There's obviously still issues there and there's probably still hurt on both sides but like I said health is a great leveller."

Sources close to the King have repeatedly suggested he is eager to bury the hatchet and rebuild his relationship with Harry.

They have also insisted Charles has been deeply saddened over his inability to bond with his youngest grandchildren, Prince Archie Harrison and Princess Lilibet.

Last month, speculation arose about Charles potentially extending an invitation to Harry and Meghan to spend part of their summer holidays with him and Queen Camilla at Balmoral.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were last together in the UK with both of their children to celebrate the late Queen's Platinum Jubilee in June 2022.
