Millions of people will be celebrating St George's Day today, April 23, to mark the anniversary of the patron saint of England.

The annual celebration remains significant, with many continuing to commemorate it with a Feast of St George.

St George was adopted as England’s patron saint in 1415 for his bravery and chivalry, and unlike other parts of the UK is not marked with a national holiday.

As part of the celebrations, a 60ft-long St George's flag has been unveiled in Nottingham city centre on the front of the city’s council house.

The move has generated debate, with one local telling GB News that the display was “amazing”.

While Nigel Daykin from Canada told GB News: “I think it’s really good to see it up there. I think we should celebrate, because he is the figurehead of the country in the same way it’s St. Andrew for Scotland and St. David for Wales. Why shouldn’t we have St. George for England?”

And Dave Porter from Wigan said of the display: “It's absolutely brilliant, we should celebrate it more. 

“It's absolutely amazing and shows we're proud of our heritage, there should be more of that. And it should be bigger than what it is actually.”

Research conducted last year by doorstep delivery service Milk & More revealed that 61 percent of Britons find pride in fish and chips.

The NHS followed in scond with 56 percent while  London’s Big Ben and Buckingham Palace tied in  third with 50 percent.

Other favourable options included the late Queen Elizabeth II, an old-fashioned Sunday roast with all the trimmings, the Tower of London, Lake District and a proper cup of British tea.
