A royal commentator said there are "obvious parallels" between Meghan Markle and King Charles' jam brands as the monarch enjoys a recent sales spike.

After launching her new lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard, Meghan sent out 50 jars of jam to her friends and influencers in the US to promote the product.

Since then, the King's brand of jam, Highgrove Organic, has seen a spike in sales as royal fans show their support.

PR guru Pauline MacLaran, like many other fans and commentators, has been quick to draw comparisons between the two brands.

She told Daily Express US: "There are obvious parallels in that both are high-end branded foodstuffs, so it remains to be seen how much these will develop or not as Meghan launches more products."

MacLaran also noted differences between the two brands, specifically pointing to Meghan's focus on the US market, as opposed to King Charles' jam which has a distinctly British feel.

She said: "As regards her following in the footsteps of King Charles’ Duchy Organic food brand, I think her positioning is different and more specifically for the American market.

There are also differences in the ethos behind each brand, with the King donating extra money made from sales to charity, and Meghan focusing more on the high-end market.

MacLaran added: "The Duchy range emphasises its organic credentials and sustainability aspects which at present Meghan does not seem to be doing."

DON'T MISS:

Meghan's jam is the first in what is expected to be a long line of goods and products she will be selling on American Riviera Orchard, but so far they have only been given to a select number of people to try.

Just hours after it was announced, Highgrove Organic Strawberry Preserve, which retails at £6.95, sold out online.

King Charles began selling his jam from the Duchy of Cornwall estate in the 1990s, and he now sells produce from the garden of his Highgrove home.
