Meghan Markle has been slammed for going from having political ambitions to "sending gal pals jam".

The 42-year-old launched her new lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard, last month and gave fans an idea of products to come by sending 50 influencers a jar of strawberry jam last week.

Some of the influencers - and friends - that Meghan sent a jar of jam to included her former Suits co-star Abigail Spencer, designer Tracy Robbins and socialite Kris Jenner.

Speaking to GB News, US-based royal commentator Lee Cohen slammed the former working royal for her "eye-rolling" move - especially having previously had ambitions to move into the political field.

Mr Cohen said: "The tone deafness, it's deafening. Especially from a person who had serious ambitions to be an influential world leader, to now be sending her gal pals jam for social media snaps."

Referring to Meghan's latest business venture as "out of touch", Mr Cohen added: "This is so monumentally eye-rolling.

"Even for Meghan, when I first became aware of this I thought that 'Jam Gate' was something the cartoon series South Park came up with to ridicule the Duchess [of Sussex] again."

Meghan launched American Riviera Orchard on March 14, with the reveal of a new Instagram account and website.

Taking to Instagram after receiving the jam to taste test, designer Tracy Robbins - alongside a picture of the jam - wrote: "@AmericanRivieraOrchard breakfast, lunch and dinner just got a little sweeter."

Delfina Blaquier - who is wife of Prince Harry's friend Nacho Figueras - also got gifted one of the 50 jars.

Her post, which also featured a picture of the jar, read: "Strawberry jam makes me happy / and I [heart] your jam @americanrivieraorchard."

Chrissy Teigen was one of the latest celebrities to shower Meghan with praise over launch of her new brand's jam.

The American model and television also shared a post onto her Instagram feed, showing her followers how she devoured the tasty treat.

Sharing a video with her 42.6 million followers, Chrissy captioned the video with: "We jammin!! This might have been one of the best bites we’ve had all year - all we used is some rustic bread, salted butter, triple cream brie, thick cut bacon and some @americanrivieraorchard jam! [It] took about 8 mins total and made us happy for the entire weekend [white-heart emoji]."

Meghan has been tipped to return to the UK next month, alongside husband Harry. The couple could also be set to bring their two children - Prince Archie, four, and Princess Lilibet, two - along for the visit too.

The Duke of Sussex will attend a special ceremony at St Paul's Cathedral to mark the 10th aanniversary of the Invictus Games.
