A busy motorway is closed in both directions after a fatal crash, with traffic chaos expected.

Police have confirmed that a man was killed near Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, in a head-on collision on the M62 in the early hours of Saturday morning.

In a statement, West Yorkshire Police said that officers rushed to the scene after receiving reports of a Vauxhall Corsa travelling westbound on the eastbound carriageway of the motorway.

However, when officers located the car they discovered that it had been in a collision not long after with a VW Golf close to Scammonden Bridge.

As commuters avoid the M62, traffic is building up on diversion routes.
