A collision between two lorries has halted traffic on a major motorway with queues spanning four miles.

Drivers on a stretch of the M6 have been caught up in major delays after a crash between two HGVs. Two lanes are closed after the smash which happened at around 6.15am today (May 9).

The incident happened between junctions 17 and 16, on the southbound carriageway, near Stoke-on-Trent with queues stretching past four miles as rush hour hits. 

Traffic monitoring app Inrix is warning of 'heavy traffic' with its alert stating: "Two lanes closed and heavy traffic due to accident, two lorries involved on M6 southbound between J17 A534 Old Mill Road ( Sandbach / Crewe) and J16 A500 (Stoke-on-Trent / Crewe). Lanes one and two (of four) are closed."
