King Charles and Queen Camilla are set to touch down in Berlin in just a few hours. Today marks the beginning of Their Majesties' first-ever visit abroad since the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September. Charles and Camilla were meant to kick off their packed state visit to the European continent on Monday, with their first destination set to be France. However, after protests against a controversial pension reform turned violent, French President Emmanuel Macron asked the British Government to postpone, likely until the summer, this historic visit. Lord Ricketts, a former national security adviser, noted hosting a state banquet for the British monarch at the Palace of Versailles would have had "echoes" of the French revolution under the current climate in the country. Similarly, Sylvie Bermann, who served as Paris's ambassador to Britain between 2014 and 2017, said the banquet would "not have given a good image".
