King Constantine II, Prince Nikolaos’s father and the former and last King of Greece, was also Prince William’s godfather.

Constantine, a distant cousin of King Charles, lived in exile after the Greek monarchy was abolished in 1974. He lived in Hampstead Garden Suburb in north London, but later returned to his home country. In January 2023, King Constantine II passed away aged 82.

At the very last minute, Prince William unexpectedly pulled out of attending the memorial service for the late former King Constantine of Greece where he had been due to give a reading on February 27, a year after his death.

Kensington Palace initially said it was because of a “personal matter” that kept the Prince of Wales from being there, but it was later confirmed this was because of the Princess of Wales’s cancer diagnosis.

The Princess is currently undergoing preventative chemotherapy and she is “in the early stages” of that treatment.
